For this First-Annual Bike and Bird, we are shattering the boundary between mountain biker and birdwatcher. August is a time of discovery and travel. In that spirit, we'll journey by bike to seek avian wonders in the wild Central Vermont Countryside. This is a bicycle-based natural history exploration and trail ride.
Chirping disk brakes and caroling tire treads are common counterpoints to summer birdsong on Vermont’s mountain bike trails. Bikers gaze out at the passing bird life from behind the handlebars, wondering what more could be seen with a trained eye. Meanwhile, birders wonder what they might find if only they could cover ground like a mountain biker.
The event is co-hosted by Joshua Saxe (Jackalope Sports Group), Onion River Outdoors, and North Branch Nature Center.
Birders of all experience levels welcome. Must be in good physical shape with a mountain bike tuned and checked by a mechanic prior to the outing.
Departs from the NBNC trailhead with a mid-morning stop for a trailside brunch.
Fee: $20 NBNC members, $25 non-members.
